CJ Jeep Driveshaft Upgraded
Cholistan Desert
This all started years back when I messed up with the CJ stock suspension, took me years to get it back to near stock but with mods. The CJ has a Toyota B diesel engine with a 5forward gearbox and power steering, original dana300 Tcase, AMC20 rear, DANA44 front axel, stock rims with near to stock 33's. With the 5fwd gear, the rear driveshaft length got shorter and the stock type driveshaft now had a steep angle similar to below. No working angle could fix this as per my research.
The only resolution was either to extend the CJ by lengthing it thus the rear drive shaft would be longer and the angle would then be less steeper OR use a double cardan (CV) drive shaft
THE REAL PROBLEM:
this is Tom Woods (http://www.4xshaft.com/) custom drive shaft and not available here in pakistan.
SOLUTION:
Introducing Malik Farooq Awan running Awan Brothers Garage (https://www.facebook.com/awanbrothersgarage/)
After a long discussion/debate and deliberations, Farooq came up with the following
flanges machined on lathe with new seals for Tcase output and AMC20 dif
double cardan from a toyota hilux front drive shaft, splines male portion from a BJ40 and splines f-male from a toyota parado
all fixed up
BUT I noticed a drone/grind on top gears on highway
realigned the rear diff pinion with a couple of shims between the leaf springs and perches and now the jeep drives like a there is no care in the world. There is still some tweaking which I shall get around to soon...... stay tuned
Very Nice, well explained, good luck
